Using Doxserá DB to access Access and SQL Databases, The Short Version
Learn how to easily access both Access and SQL databases using Doxserá DB with this convenient and informative guide.
Doxserá® DB opens up a new level of data integration for knowledge workers in law firms, insurance companies, venture capital, and other industries.
In this demonstration, we’ll explore how Doxserá® DB connects to these additional data sources. More complete instructions can be located in this same library.
Starting with the familiar data source setup in an earlier demo, we create a new data source by clicking the plus button. As before, we give it a name—let’s call it “Test”—but now, in addition to Excel workbooks, we have the option to choose Access or SQL databases.
For an Access database, the process is simple: browse to the file, select it, and click OK—just like you would with Excel. For SQL databases, it’s a bit more technical. SQL databases require either a DSN (Data Source Name) or a connection string to establish the link.
Setting up a DSN is typically handled by your IT department or a consultant, as it involves configuring various parameters such as connection types, database names, and potentially usernames and passwords. However, once the DSN is set up, Doxserá® DB makes accessing the database incredibly easy. All you need to do is enter the DSN name in the setup screen, and Doxserá® DB will retrieve all available tables and columns from the SQL database.
From here, the process works just the way you expect. Whether you're pulling from an Excel file or a SQL database, the fields, conditions, and lists work the same way—no new learning curve for the user. You can access live, constantly updated data in your forms, ensuring that your documents are always accurate and up-to-date.
This seamless integration of multiple data sources with Doxserá® DB opens the door to even greater efficiency and accuracy, making it a powerful tool for managing complex datasets and generating intelligent documents across industries.
