When a Set fails, a Microsoft Word Bug May Be the Cause
Learn about a potential cause for set failures in Microsoft Word setting files as "Read Me" only.
There seems to be a bug in Word that can interfere with properly completing Sets. The symptom is a failure to complete the aggregate Questionnaire just before integrating the final form in the Set, followed by a complete stall in the process. The bug can be confirmed at least sometimes by using the Check Form tool against the folder storing the forms in the Set that produces a warning about a missing "Table."
The bug is triggered by the selection of a specific option in the Start Up Options section on the General page of Word's Options. Although the troublesome option indicates that it affects only email attachments by setting them to read-only, it also seems to apply that command to some Word documents as well. In this case it sets the final form to Read Only, which destroys the program's ability to work with it. We recommend that "Open e-mail attachments and other uneditable files in reading view" be unclicked.
